Wallowing Will Get You Everywhere You Don’t Want To Be

By SMC Taylor

Wallowing is a word that we don’t want to believe we know.  Just the sound of  this word is unpleasant and unflattering. We wallow in our self pity from time to time depending on what is going on in our life or what is not going on in our life. Wallowing is not something fun to do. So why do we do it? We wallow when things don’t go the way we want or planned and then end up in our own mud puddle.  I have had several things that have not gone my way lately and felt myself doing this self-defeating deed. Luckily, I caught myself early enough so I didn’t become a complete muddy mess!

When you begin to wallow, the key to staying clean is to recognize what you are doing as soon as you start to do it. Consider why you are wallowing in the first place.  Most of the time there is a reason something didn’t go you way, but you just can’t see it. Tell yourself, “Okay, so this didn’t come out the way I planned, now what can I do differently to make the outcome better?” It can be as simple as having a better attitude and not assuming  that something is going to happen the way you want it to just because you want it to.  We can’t plan what we can’t control. Do what you need to do and then forget about it. Either it will work out or it won’t. If it doesn’t, try something else and go forward. We can’t change the past, we can’t predict the future, but we can work on the now. As long as you do the best that you can do at any moment, you are golden. Just remember, giving up is not an option, keep trying until you get it right.
