If You Don’t Get Bruised, You’re Not Trying Hard Enough!

By SMC Taylor

Sometimes you have to get bruised in life in order to succeed. My youngest son loves to learn tricks on his skateboard. A year ago I had glanced at his legs and was surprised at how many bruises he had. I brought this to his attention and his answer was, “Mom, if you don’t get bruised up, it means you are not trying hard enough to land the tricks. I have these bruises because I keep on trying until I get the trick right, and besides, the bruises will go away soon, don’t worry!” I thought about that and realized that is just like the journey of life. It’s about not giving up. We try one thing, get a bruise, try it another way, get another bruise, but eventually after trying enough we are going to land that trick! Getting bruises isn’t the worse thing that can happen to you, but not trying to land that trick and know how good it feels when you get it right is far worse than getting a few bruises. So get out there and get bruised up a bit, those bruises are the precursors of success.
