No Knee Is Going To Tell Me I Can’t Run!

By SMC Taylor

\Enough is enough….I am finally back to running again! I have had a slight knee injury that has stopped my running for awhile. It actually has been over a year. Today was a stressful day and the weather was so beautiful tonight I told myself, tonight is the night girlfriend. No more excuses! And out the door I went. I walked a quarter mile first to warm up and then just started running. My legs felt strong and my cardio was pretty good. ( I have been walking everyday so that has helped.) If you are a runner you will understand how good it felt to just have my body be in that motion again.  Walking is great and I do like it, but there is something about running that gets the cobwebs out of your head better than walking.

After I was finished I had those similar feelings I use to have after running….not stressed and felt like the world is great again. It’s amazing how much better you feel when you push yourself with exercise. When you push yourself, it helps you to understand that YOU can do ANYTHING you want to do, you just have to start and then do it!

I started running when I was 42. My running helped me with other parts of my life. It was though pushing myself to the finish line in my first 5k that I realized I can do more than I think I can. Exercise can do that for you too. If you have never really pushed yourself in some sort of physical activity, pick an activity you would like to do and do it. Start tomorrow! You will be surprised how other aspects of your life can change for the better. Most people who have never ran a race, or ran around the block, think they could never run. It’s not true. All you need to do is start. Start walking, run a few minutes, or seconds, walk and run some more. As time goes on you will be running more than walking. I have witnessed many first time runners, who said they would only run if someone chased them, who are running races now. It can be you too!
