Early Morning Run

The air is not speaking
I start to run

The sound of the pavement
I pick up speed

The wind begins to hum
I feel hair flow

The trees become alive
I hear the birds

The golfers emerging
I wave a hello

The houses become awake
I hear the chatter

The run almost over
I feel the sweat

The day has now begun
I feel refreshed

 

My First 5k!

I was not very athletic when I was younger, but I ran my first 5k on my 42nd birthday. It was a thrill for me when I crossed that finish line. In fact, for me, it was almost as exciting as giving birth to my two sons. I never really envisioned myself becoming a runner. My motivation came mainly from my mom, after losing her battle with breast cancer. This was a way to channel my grief that made me feel better.
